We work together to continually develop and implement sustainable solutions. Through Green Thread, our environmental sustainability platform, we bring innovative and efficient solutions to life. We are passionately focused on reducing the environmental impact within our operations.

Source Reduction

Carolina Food Co. eliminates waste by planning meals for a specific number of guests. That keeps us from preparing too much food. If we make too much, we take note for the next time that meal is prepared. 

Feed Hungry People

If there is excess food prepared, Carolina Food Co. works with the Food Recovery Network to donate safe food to hunger relief agencies like Oliver Gospel Mission. E-mail us to get involved! 

Industrial Uses

Green Energy Biofuels collects waste oil from our kitchens to convert into biodiesel. Green Energy Biofuels also sponsors student projects and donates to Sustainable Carolina to increase sustainable initiatives here on campus. 

Composting

Carolina Food Co. works with Atlas Organics to remove any compostable material from kitchens on campus. From leftover food to cups and straws, we’ve composted over 56 tons in the fall semester. The compost enriches the land for gardens and farms throughout the Southeast 

Landfill

Sending waste to a landfill is a last resort. Carolina Food Co. does everything possible to divert waste from a landfill and put it to good use elsewhere. We welcome creative ideas and volunteers to help us in our mission to reduce our environmental impact.
